Wow. But I know what my mom would say, "It's too much work, blah, blah, blah, and you're not even here half the time" (my parents are divorced, so they each get 50% of the time with me and my siblings)
Oh my god yes! I am not sure anymore if its a girl or boy xD because its starting to look very boyish, but acted and looked very girlish in the beginning, so lets just call it she for now.
She was handfed from being a baby, but my familymemeber kind of were scared of handling her as time passed, because she were so scared and not very kind. So I got it. AND I HAVE never had a bird before xDD Birds have always kind of freaked me out, because they are so smart. But I wanted to take on the challenge and read all about it before I got it.
The first days she were just getting housewarm so she werent so bad, BUT ONCE SHE DID get house warm xD oh god, here starts the games of testing whos the boss of the house and how far she can push the limits! I mean the bite isnt that hard, its like apinch, but when they bite and then start gnawing, THATS what hurts xD because they end up gnawing off the skin if you let them keep at it for to long. She was no fun, I couldnt train her because she kept biting so I had to stop often. so yeah the first few months I were extremely frustrated witht his pet I could do nothing with, messed up my floor with all the feathers and were extremely loudly in the mornings. I was like IS THIS REALLY worth all this.
But then again I wanted the challenge and I was not going to give up, so when I came home from vacation ( I had coworkers take care of her those 4 days) She felt like a diffrent bird, because I myself changed my view on her. I was not going to let this bird conqour me xD So I no longer cared about her bites, and then I found out I could actually play with her and keep her busy from biting, and that was by using toys. Because birds play by biting and shredding things, so if you just keep them on your finger without anything they can do, they will humor themselves and bite. She has learned that there are some limits now so she doesnt lunge to bite anymore like she did first. She now knows what my hand means and that is food and fun and a clean cage! she will also often sit and watch my hands if I sit by her cage xDD to see if they will come and open the cage and so on haha But shes still young. So I would say she wont get super tame before shes atleast a year or more.
ohhh okay that's pretty cool. yeah i have not been bitten by one yet im alittle afraid of that, but what mainly freaks me out is you never know when they are gonna flap there wings away, it's kinda freaky and startling at first hah XD; but i played with my brothers bird he has a pretty blue tail. i really like the budgies that are like piebald blue? all white with blue or purple colors underneath and the zebra stripes on the face are either not on them or are a very light grey color. i saw one at the pet store i almost bought but i cannot get one yet because i have one more year of university left so i wouldnt be home nor couldnt take it with. D: yeah, so do you tell it no when it bites you, and are you careful not to flinch or say anything when it bites?
i'd like to get one soon so that later in life i will have some practice with birds because i really want a macaw someday x3 i know that i may be able to afford one one day because of my b/fs profession but its more about how long they live is the hard part, like they'd be a family member officially 0-0
idk if you can see this but this is my brothers bird his name is Kai meaning ocean in hawaiian-
The key is to ignore unwanted behaviour! because it will make them stop sooner or later when nothing happens when they do it. Birds usually let you know if they want to be left a lone or come play.
Birds love loud sounds xD atleast mine does! so yelling is futile! They also love it when they get a reaction out of things they do, so pulling your finger away or even making a face when they bite is not smart. Its great to just have a stick or a toy close by if they start biting so they can bite that instead.
shes more like playfull so she does them on her own to entertain herself I guess. Shes really playfull. Anything she can throw or grab onto is fun for her, and she loves doing it to lettuce leaves aswell xD because she can also rip them appart piece by piece
